Enyimba, the defending CAF Champions League champions from Nigeria, will play Egyptian club Al-Ahly Benghazi in the first round, while Remo Stars will take on Medeama Sporting Club from Ghana.
The draw for the preliminary round of the 2023/24 edition of the competition took place on Tuesday at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The initial match of the tie is scheduled to occur in Libya from August 18-20, followed by the second match a week later in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria.
If either club wins, they will face either Cameroon’s Coton Sport or Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosa in the next stage.
Enyimba has won the CAF Champions League twice.
The second Nigerian club participating in the competition, Remo Stars, will embark on a journey to Ghana for the initial phase of the match-up, followed by hosting their Ghanaian counterparts in Ikenne for the subsequent phase.
In the event that Remo Stars, a team participating in the competition for the first time, emerge victorious in the upcoming match, they will subsequently encounter Horoya FC from Guinea in the subsequent round.
The draws for the preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup were conducted, separate from the CAF Champions League.
Bendel Insurance has been matched with Algerian team ASO Chlef and, should they succeed, they will face RS Berkane in the subsequent phase of the competition.
In addition to the CAF Champions League, preliminary round draws for the CAF Confederation Cup were also conducted.
If Bendel Insurance beats the Algerian team ASO Chlef, they will move on to face RS Berkane in the next round.
Rivers United, another team from Nigeria, will not know their opponents until the second round.
They’ll face whoever wins tonight’s game between Etoile Filante and Ziguinchor.
