Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Ognndare Dare, has pledged to apprehend the culprits behind a brazen bank robbery that occurred in broad daylight in Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday.
In a press release issued via the command’s account, Dare expressed deep concern over the incident and has directed a thorough investigation to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
According to reports from The PUNCH, the robbery targeted two new-generation banks, resulting in the suspected deaths of three individuals.
The armed assailants reportedly used dynamite to breach the banks’ doors and fled with an undisclosed sum of money.
Eyewitnesses noted the discovery of a lifeless body near one bank’s gate and further mentioned the deaths of two others at a separate location within the town at the hands of the robbers.
The source said, “I can confirm the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until police arrived the scene and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another place.”
However, late Wednesday night, the police statement noted that “the Commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The statement added, “While commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Meanwhile, the command’s tactical squads as well as the military who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush.
“The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered to the station.
