The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have reportedly arrested over 70 students of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Reports revealed that the students were arrested following a raid on their hostels outside the campus at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Some of the hotels raided by the EFCC operatives were identified as the Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate in Ile-Ife.
Comnenting on the incident, the OAU Students’ Union President, Abass Ojo, said 72 students were arrested with their phones and cars taken away by the EFCC officers.
It was further gathered that female students were among those arrested by the officers of the anti-graft agency.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Public Affairs Department of the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Command, Olumide Egbodofo, said an update would be given on the incident.
“A press statement will be released regarding that soon,” Egbodofo said.
Meanwhile, the OAU spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, has yet to speak on the incident as of press time.
