Operatives of the Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Makurdi, Benue State, have apprehended 15 individuals suspected of being involved in internet fraud.
This operation took place in the Makurdi metropolis, following intelligence gathered on the suspected activities of the individuals.
According to a statement shared on X, “The suspects were arrested at Abu King Shuluwe Street, Akpehe, Makurdi metropolis, based on actionable intelligence regarding their alleged involvement in internet fraud.”
The operation was conducted after the EFCC received credible information about the group’s suspected involvement in fraudulent online activities.
The arrests were made with the intent to curb the growing menace of internet fraud, which has become a significant issue in various regions of Nigeria.
The operatives of the EFCC acted swiftly and seized the opportunity provided by the intelligence they had received to apprehend the suspects.
During the operation, a variety of items were recovered, providing further evidence of the suspects’ alleged activities.
As stated in the report, “Items recovered from them include: two cars, five laptop computers, 17 mobile phones, among others.” These items are believed to be tools used by the suspects in their fraudulent activities.
The EFCC has confirmed that the suspects will face legal consequences for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
“The suspects would be charged to court as soon as their investigations are concluded,” the statement added.
