The Edo State Government has suspended its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, along with the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, over allegations of financial and official misconduct.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, emphasizing that the suspension takes immediate effect.
“Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the suspension of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, and the Chairman of the Edo Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, following allegations of grave financial infractions,” Ikhilor stated.
He further explained that an investigative committee has been established to examine the claims against the two officials and provide recommendations.
“This action is necessary to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations,” he added.
The suspension comes less than three months after both officials were appointed. The state government has assured the public that due process will be followed in handling the matter.
