The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to driving its economy by leveraging technology.
This was disclosed by the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., while paying host to delegates from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Associates on Saturday in Benin.
According to the Head of Service, the government has made sure that every employee has the tools and skills necessary to guarantee effective service delivery to Edo citizens and to fulfill their share of responsibility for the socioeconomic development and growth of the state.
Okungbowa said the state is using an e-governance system, leveraging technology to improve service delivery and achieve its goal for a digitally inclined civil/public service, reassuring the public of the government’s commitment to the welfare of the workers.
He added, “We understand the role of technology in the socio-economic development of any society. As a government, we will continue to leverage its immense benefit to ensure the delivery of efficient services to our citizens, ensuring economic prosperity and increased livelihood for our people.’
He mentioned that the state’s 72 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have all completed the transition to the e-governance system.
Okungbowa continued, “We are also deploying technology in the Residency Card Implementation as well as the Edo Fleet Management System, otherwise known as Edo MEGA Connect,” listing additional areas where the government is effectively utilizing technology.
Olubunmi Okunowo, who spoke on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, pledged the organization’s support for the state government’s initiatives to create a technologically driven system that ensures the Edo people receive the best possible service.
