Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has suspended all revenue collection activities across the state, with a focus on motor parks and similar areas.
The governor’s spokesman, Fred Itua, issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the suspension takes effect immediately.
“The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections in Edo, especially at motor parks and similar locations,” the statement read.
“This suspension will remain until further notice as the governor reviews issues surrounding these collections to determine a way forward.”
In addition, the governor directed the state’s Commissioner of Police to enforce the order, emphasizing that anyone who disregards it will be apprehended.
“The Commissioner of Police has been instructed to arrest anyone attempting to collect revenue on behalf of the state government,” the statement continued.
Okpebholo assured the public that he would address concerns surrounding the suspension soon. “I will address the public regarding these issues shortly and provide new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenue on behalf of the state government,” he stated.
Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were on Tuesday sworn in, in a ceremony officiated by Edo State Chief Justice, Daniel Okungbowa, at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
