David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, in Ebonyi State, has sanctioned 14 students for various offenses, including examination misconduct, theft, and poor academic performance.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, made this known during the institution’s fourth matriculation ceremony on Saturday. He emphasized the university’s commitment to discipline and maintaining high academic standards.
According to Uneke, two students were expelled for exam malpractice, while three were suspended for a year due to theft. Additionally, five others received a one-semester suspension for the same offense, and three students were withdrawn for failing to meet academic requirements.
“This university maintains very strict discipline,” Uneke stated. “Our rules and regulations are unforgiving when violated. The Senate approved disciplinary actions on 14 students between the last matriculation and now, depending on the severity of their offenses.”
He urged students to stay focused on their studies and avoid any behavior that could jeopardize their education, warning that the institution has zero tolerance for misconduct.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s rapid growth since its inception in 2021, noting that enrollment has increased from 26 students to 2,496. This year alone, 990 students were admitted.
Speaking on the institution’s healthcare initiatives, Uneke revealed that its cancer treatment center has provided care for 200 patients from across the country. He added that chemotherapy services have been introduced, with an official inauguration of the center set for March 8, 2025.
“The university cancer center is fully operational,” he said. “As of December 2024, we have treated 200 cancer patients. This year, we have expanded services to include chemotherapy.”
