A fire incident occurred early Friday morning, affecting a section of the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters located on Odunsanmi Street, near WEMPCO Road in Ogba.
The blaze reportedly started around 2:20 am, engulfing part of a two-bedroom apartment in Flat 5, Block 21—a three-story building with 16 two-bedroom units.
Initial findings from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency indicated that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge in the children’s room.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that the fire completely ravaged the children’s bedroom, leading to property losses estimated in the millions of naira.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly. Fortunately, there was no loss of life and injuries sustained in the incident. Also, victims and other occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.
As of 5 am, personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and the Nigerian Police Force were still on-site, working to fully control the situation.
