The newly established “Ember Months” Special Operations Team, under the command of Delta State Police Commissioner, Wale Abass, has successfully apprehended six suspected armed robbers in Asaba.
This was announced by the Command’s Spokesman, Bright Edafe, on Sunday.
Edafe also revealed that the operation led to the recovery of a quantity of ammunition.
The Ember Months Special Operations Team, consisting of various tactical formations such as RRS, Raiders, CP-Decoy, Eagle Net, Safer Highway, Safe Delta, Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, Crack Squad, CP Monitoring, and CP X-Squad, has been making notable strides in combatting crime and criminal activities, particularly within the city. These units are headed by their respective commanders.
He said, “The Assistant Commissioner of Police operations and the various Area commanders were equally directed by the CP to ensure strict supervision and monitoring of their activities. All these factors have contributed immensely to the Peace the State is enjoying.
“On October 24, 2023 a team led by SP Inyere Chinedu were on night patrol along Asaba – Benin Expressway by Rain Oil Filling Station, and intercepted a commercial shuttle bus with four male passengers.
“During a search of the bus, one English Beretta pistol, one dagger, was recovered from one of the occupants identified as Ishiaku Ya’u.
“The suspect and exhibits are in custody, and investigation has commenced while efforts are being intensified to track down members of his gang and recover other weapons”.
In a similar operation, Sector ‘C’ of the Ember Months patrol was engaged in stop and search duties along the Asaba-Benin expressway.
During their inspection, they intercepted a shuttle bus carrying two male passengers. Bright Edafe reported that a search of these passengers led to the discovery of one locally made cut-to-size gun and two live cartridges in their possession.
Furthermore, Edafe disclosed that the suspects were found to be carrying two pistols and four locally made guns.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their vicinity to aid the police in effectively performing their duties.
He assured that such information would be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
