The Delta State Government, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fair worker compensation in light of the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, made this statement on Saturday, emphasizing that the administration remains dedicated to the welfare of its workers.
Osuoza assured, “So be rest assured that our Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to the welfare of workers in the state, especially now that a new minimum wage has been agreed on and is waiting for the National Assembly’s consent.”
Addressing concerns about whether the state government would require federal assistance to implement the new wage or seek an increase in monthly allocations, Osuoza noted that President Tinubu has pledged support to both the private sector and sub-national entities, including states and local governments, to ensure they can manage the new wage demands.
“There is no doubt that the state governments and the federal government will be working closely together to ensure that all measures will be put in place to see that the new minimum wage is paid,” he said.
He also mentioned that the Governors Forum would be expected to meet and adopt a unified stance on the new wage policy.
