The governor of Delta State and the PDP’s vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, said that his administration had renewed the contract for the Ayakoromo Bridge with Setraco Nigeria, ensuring that the project will be completed as scheduled.
Okowa provided the reassurance during the party’s election campaign in Burutu, the seat of the Burutu Council.
According to the governor, the government terminated the contract a few weeks ago as a result of the former contractor’s subpar work. He merely stated that Setraco would mobilize to the location next week without disclosing how much money had been committed to the project.
The governor extended appreciation to the locals for their long-standing support of the PDP.
“My dear people of Burutu Council, I thank you for all your support for our party candidates over the years.
“We have also reciprocated your support by constructing concrete pavement of all internal roads in Burutu town.
“We constructed modern market and built schools in Burutu town, Ogulagha and other communities but, unfortunately, there is one project you people are not happy about, which is the Ayakoromo bridge.”
He blamed the contractor for the delay, saying the contract had been re-awarded to Setraco Nigeria Ltd.
“Next week, we will mobilise them to start and they will finish it because it is a promise I made to you people and I must fulfil it,” he said.
He exhorted the populace to stick with the Atiku-Okowa ticket and gave them the assurance that the PDP will win the presidency and deliver Nigerians from their plight.
