The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has directed the Theatre Commander to provide all necessary assistance to flood victims in Borno State.
According to The PUNCH, the CDS, in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen Tukur Gusau expressed sadness over the incident.
He assured the citizens that the military would work with the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
The statement read, “The CDS was saddened to learn of the loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of thousands of citizens as a result of the flood from Alo Dam.
On behalf of the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Chief of Defence Staff wishes to convey heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to the government and people of Borno State at this difficult time.
“General Musa also assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will work closely with the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
He further directed the Theater Commander Operation Hadin Kai to offer all necessary assistance to victims.
The AFN stands in solidarity with the people of Borno State and will ensure all affected communities are evacuated to safety. In addition, it will support the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
The CDS remains committed to the efforts of both the Federal and Borno state governments to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by this tragic event.”
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of thousands of citizens due to the flood from Alo Dam,” General Musa said in a statement. “On behalf of the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, I convey heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to the government and people of Borno State.”
The military will work closely with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other authorities to provide immediate relief and support to affected communities. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Borno State and will ensure all affected communities are evacuated to safety,” General Musa added. “We will also support ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.”
Floodwaters have submerged major roads, homes, and shops across Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, as well as parts of Jere Local Government Area.
The flood also breached a prison wall in the Customs area, leading to reports of some inmates drowning while many others escaped in the chaos.
