Elder statesman and renowned business magnate, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has generously donated N1.5 billion to aid victims affected by the recent floods in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The disaster, which left many devastated, prompted Dantata to personally lead a delegation from Kano to the Government House in Maiduguri on Tuesday, where he conveyed his sympathies to the affected communities.
According to The PUNCH, during the visit, Dantata extended heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Zulum, the state government, and particularly to the families who tragically lost loved ones due to the flooding.
Expressing deep concern over the country’s economic challenges, Dantata urged Nigeria’s elites and political leaders to reflect on their responsibilities, “repent and fear God,” as he emphasized the need for compassion and ethical leadership.
In his remarks, the 96-year-old philanthropist also prayed for the restoration of peace and harmony in Borno State and across Nigeria.
In response, Governor Zulum expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging the elder statesman’s compassion and generosity as a source of hope during a difficult time.
He highlighted how Dantata’s visit was especially touching, given his age and the personal significance of the gesture.
“The people of Borno deeply appreciate this show of magnanimity by a 96-year-old to visit us. Let me announce it, Our Baba has donated the sum of N1.5 billion to support the flood victims,” Governor Zulum stated.
This act of generosity follows closely on the heels of a similar gesture from Dantata’s nephew, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who earlier donated N1 billion to assist the flood victims.
