The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has reaffirmed Shehu Mohammed as its National President, dispelling any doubts about his leadership.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the union’s Secretary-General, Joshua Apebo, emphasized that Mohammed was duly elected on August 12, 2024, during the union’s 5th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Ikeja, Lagos.
His election followed the expiration of the previous Central Working Committee’s tenure on July 29, 2024.
Apebo clarified that the election process was in line with the organization’s constitution and labour laws.
“We want to assure our members that as a law-abiding trade union, we are committed to operating within the ambits of our constitution and the labour laws of Nigeria,” he stated.
The statement also referenced a ruling by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria on July 9, 2024, regarding former National President Innocent Bola-Audu.
The court, in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/214/2022, had ruled that Bola-Audu should complete his tenure by July 29, 2024, after being reinstated from April 2023. The ruling also awarded him N3 million in compensation for legal expenses, to be paid jointly by the defendants.
“As part of an out-of-court settlement, the union is reviewing the issue of compensation to Bola-Audu in accordance with the court’s decision,” the ASCSN noted.
The union urged its members to continue supporting the leadership of Shehu Mohammed, Joshua Apebo, and the CWC, while dismissing any misinformation aimed at destabilizing the association.
“The ASCSN remains focused on protecting the rights and welfare of senior civil servants across the country,” the statement concluded.
