A somber atmosphere enveloped Bayelsa State on Christmas Day as a young boy tragically drowned in the swimming pool of the Aridolf Hotel, located along the Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The boy, whose identity remains unknown, was part of a group of children who had visited the popular hotel to celebrate the holiday.
According to an eyewitness, the swimming pool was crowded with children at the time, making it challenging to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
“We saw so many children in the pool,” the eyewitness recounted. “It was difficult to notice what exactly happened until it was too late.”
The eyewitness also revealed that another boy narrowly escaped a similar fate but was successfully resuscitated.
Efforts to identify the deceased or locate his parents or guardians have so far been unsuccessful.
The tragic event has sparked widespread discussions on social media, with many emphasizing the importance of enhanced safety measures in recreational facilities, especially those catering to children.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Musa Mohammed, stated that he would investigate the incident and provide more details.
However, as of the time of reporting, he had not responded to follow-up calls.
