The Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, is set to arrive in Abuja on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for an official visit aimed at deepening ties between Nigeria and China.
The Acting Spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa announced the visit in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting its significance in fostering cooperation across various sectors.
According to the statement, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will be welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“His Excellency Wang Yi will engage in bilateral talks with Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, on Thursday, January 9, 2025. These discussions will focus on enhancing partnerships in trade, infrastructure, and technology,” Ebienfa stated.
The visit will also include a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where Wang Yi will deliver a special message from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“The visiting foreign minister will pay a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu to convey a message from the Chinese President, further underscoring the importance of the relationship between both nations,” the statement added.
The discussions are expected to strengthen existing partnerships and create new opportunities for collaboration, especially in critical sectors.
Wang Yi’s visit reflects the growing importance of Nigeria-China relations in addressing mutual interests.
