Nigerian-South African beauty queen, Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, recently opened up about her aspirations to become the next Miss Universe.
In an interview with Arise Television, Adetshina, who hails from Enugu but represents Taraba State, shared her journey and the hurdles she has faced along the way.
Adetshina, who holds dual citizenship, revealed that she has grappled with identity issues, a challenge that has significantly influenced her life and career.
Despite these struggles, her determination to succeed in the world of pageantry remains unshaken.
Reflecting on her decision to pursue pageantry full-time, Adetshina explained her long-held dream of competing on the global stage.
“I think it’s something I started recently; however, I’ve had this dream since 2017 to become the next Miss Universe. I’m really glad I have been given the platform and the opportunity to at least try and reach that goal,” she shared.
Adetshina’s passion for pageantry, she says, is deeply rooted in her desire to achieve personal goals she set years ago.
“I’m so excited. I just feel like this is a second chance in achieving one of my biggest dreams and goals, and I’m really excited. So, I always wanted to be a model but I wasn’t educated on pageantry and all of that. I first knew what pageantry was at 17. I told myself I want to be a Miss Universe. So, for me, it is just a thing like I have set goals for myself and I’m yet to achieve them. So, I think I’m just aligning with what I wanted to do. I’m really grateful for that,” she said.
Adetshina expressed gratitude for the support she has received, particularly from her fellow contestants, which has motivated her to continue pursuing her dreams.
“I have received so much love and encouragement from all the girls, and this motivates me to thrive in everyday life and pursue my dreams,” she noted.
“No one deserved to be treated differently or feel unaccepted or unloved,” she added.
Adetshina’s journey has not been without controversy. She made headlines in South Africa after her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant was cut short following allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother.
The South African Home Office’s involvement in the matter only added to the scrutiny she faced, leading to widespread criticism when her candidacy was first announced.
Despite the setbacks, Adetshina’s story took a positive turn when she was invited by the Silverbird Group to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
This opportunity has reignited her passion and given her a renewed sense of purpose as she works towards her goal of becoming the next Miss Universe.
Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina’s journey is a testament to resilience and the unwavering pursuit of one’s dreams, even in the face of significant challenges.
As she continues to compete for the Miss Universe title, she remains focused on her mission to inspire others and achieve the goals she set for herself years ago.
