Chelsea FC has confirmed that Thiago Silva suffered knee ligament damage during the 2-0 Premier League defeat at Tottenham during the weekend match.
The 38 years old Silva, a former Paris Saint-Germain defender was said to have left the field on the first half of the match.
According to France24, the absence of the former AC Milan player on the pitch may take up to six weeks and his absence will pose another setback for under-pressure manager Graham Potter who has just two wins from the club’s last 15 games in all competitions.
Chelsea FC said that scan results have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligaments and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action.
A Chelsea statement reads: “Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thiago underwent assessment and a scan on his return to the training centre on Monday.”
Thiago Silva clutches his left knee after picking up an injury.
“Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligament and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible,” the club added.
However, Silva is said to have missed just three of Chelsea’s Premier League matches this season.
