Chelsea have reportedly agreed to sign goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
Seeking a shot-stopper adept at playing from the back, head coach Enzo Maresca aims to implement a build-up style beginning with the goalkeeper.
Chelsea had been linked with Mads Hermansen, who joined Leicester City under Maresca last summer.
However, they are moving forward with a bid for fellow Dane Jorgensen instead.
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, reported that Chelsea have finalized a £20.7m deal to bring Jorgensen on board, and he will soon be introduced as their latest acquisition.
“More on Filip Jørgensen exclusive story. Deal between Chelsea and Villarreal does not include add-ons. Chelsea pay €24.5m instead of higher fee with add-ons. Jørgensen’s contract will be valid until June 2030 with an option until 2031,” Romano wrote on X.
Jorgensen is set to be the fourth senior goalkeeper Chelsea has signed during BlueCo’s two-year tenure, following Gabriel Slonina, Robert Sanchez, and Djordje Petrovic.
Slonina, still only 20, is considered a future prospect, while Sanchez and Petrovic faced difficulties playing from the back last season under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 22-year-old Jorgensen, born in Sweden, has played in Spain since his teenage years and represents Denmark at the junior international level.
He broke through at Villarreal in the 2023/24 season, making 36 La Liga appearances and recording the most saves in the league.
Jorgensen will be Chelsea’s seventh signing in a busy summer transfer window, joining Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Caleb Wiley at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea began their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against League One’s Wrexham and are set to face Scottish champions Celtic on Saturday night.
