The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has vowed to apprehend notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who has been terrorizing communities in Zamfara State and the Northwest.
Turji is alleged to be behind numerous attacks and recently demanded an N30 million levy from residents in exchange for protection from further violence.
According to The PUNCH, General Musa described Turji as “a deranged individual” and promised his capture shortly.
“I can assure you, it’s just a matter of time. We are going to get him, and it will be within the shortest possible time,” Musa declared.
The Defence Chief also addressed the issue of bandits extorting communities, emphasizing that these payments fuel their activities. “The payment of levies to bandits is something we’re going to address. This is what they live on, and it shows their desperation. The money they collect is blood money, and even when they get it, they don’t know what to do with it,” he said.
Musa called for cooperation between local communities and security forces to limit the movements of bandits.
“We must all come together and work with the armed forces to deny them the ability to move freely within our communities,” he urged.
The General reiterated that the military remains committed to restoring peace and security in Zamfara and across the country.
