Former President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, following the All Progressives Congress’ mmsuccess in the state’s governorship election held on Saturday.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari described the election outcome as a clear reflection of the confidence voters have in Governor Aiyedatiwa and the APC.
“The voters have spoken loudly and clearly about their trust in the party and the governor,” the statement read.
The former president emphasized the importance of respecting the electorate’s choice, noting that the result is a testament to the strength of democracy in Nigeria.
“This election proves that democracy in a country as large and diverse as Nigeria remains vibrant and resilient,” Buhari said.
He further encouraged the governor to focus on policies that address economic challenges, tackle unemployment and inflation, and enhance social welfare programs.
“The onus now lies on the Governor to implement measures that spur economic growth and improve the lives of the people,” Buhari added.
Buhari also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their role in conducting a more efficient electoral process.
He highlighted improvements compared to previous elections and urged continued efforts to strengthen the system.
Wishing Governor Aiyedatiwa a successful tenure, Buhari expressed hope that the administration would bring lasting development to Ondo State.
