The nominees for the 2024 Kopa Trophy have been announced, with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo both earning spots on the prestigious shortlist.
This prestigious award, previously claimed by the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, celebrates the most outstanding under-21 player from the 2023/24 season.
Voted on by past Ballon d’Or winners, the winner will be announced during the ceremony in Paris on October 28.
Among the nominees, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have garnered attention for their impressive displays in the Premier League, despite their club’s mixed season.
Mainoo’s performances were so impactful that he earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.
Lamine Yamal, just 17, made waves after helping Spain triumph in the Euro 2024 final against England. He also became the youngest player to score in the tournament’s history, shortly before his 17th birthday.
Other promising talents making the cut include Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsi, Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, Manchester City’s Savinho, and Paris Saint-Germain’s duo Joao Neves and Warren Zaire-Emery. RB Salzburg’s Karim Konate rounds out the list of nominees.
