Barcelona’s Hansi Flick has been honoured as La Liga Coach of the Month for August, marking an impressive start to his tenure with FC Barcelona.
The Blaugranas’ flawless performance, securing four victories from four matches, has propelled them to the top of the league table.
Barcelona’s campaign began with a narrow 2-1 win at home against Athletic Club, followed by a resounding 7-0 triumph over Real Valladolid.
They continued their winning streak with two away victories, defeating Valencia 2-1 at Mestalla and Rayo Vallecano 2-1 at Vallecas.
Flick’s remarkable debut season in La Liga earned him the Coach of the Month accolade, surpassing Marcelino Garcia Toral of Villarreal CF and Luis Garcia Plaza of Deportivo Alaves in the voting.
As Barcelona heads into the international break, Flick is eager to maintain the team’s momentum.
The squad, including recovering striker Ansu Fati, participated in a training session on Monday. Fati, who has been battling a foot injury since late July, is now nearing full fitness and joined his teammates for part of the session.
Following the break, Barcelona will face Girona in a Catalan derby on Sunday at Montilivi Stadium. The team will then embark on their Champions League journey with a match against AS Monaco the following week.
In a setback for the squad, Barcelona announced that young midfielder Marc Bernal will be sidelined for a year due to injury.
Bernal, who featured prominently in the first three league matches of the 2024/25 season, sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and an associated meniscus injury in his left knee during the final moments of the match against Rayo Vallecano.
According to Barcelona’s official statement, “The player has undergone a successful surgical procedure on the injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his left knee carried out by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the club’s medical services at Barcelona Hospital. Recovery time is expected to be 12 months.”
