Aston Villa advanced to the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in a decade, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday.
Jacob Ramsey struck in the opening minute, and Morgan Rogers added a second-half goal to secure the memorable victory.
Villa got off to a dream start just 58 seconds into the match. Rogers drove forward almost unchallenged before slipping a pass to Ramsey. The 23-year-old fired a shot straight at Antonin Kinsky, but the Tottenham goalkeeper failed to hold on as the ball slipped through his hands and into the net.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 64th minute after a defensive mix-up. Pedro Porro failed to clear Leon Bailey’s cross, leaving Rogers perfectly positioned to slot the loose ball home from close range.
Tottenham’s new signing, French forward Mathys Tel, offered a late spark when he flicked Dejan Kulusevski’s cross into the net in the 91st minute.
However, Villa held on to secure a hard-fought victory.
Elsewhere, Premier League leaders Liverpool were stunned by second-tier Plymouth Argyle in a 1-0 defeat, while Wolverhampton Wanderers booked their place in the next round with a 2-0 win at Blackburn Rovers.
