Arsenal have reportedly turned down a bid from Ajax for their goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
After losing his starting position at the Emirates Stadium last season due to David Raya’s arrival from Brentford, Ramsdale has been linked with a potential move away to secure more playing time.
Ajax, the Dutch Eredivisie giants, are eager to bring the England international to De Toekomst, but they must first persuade Arsenal to agree to the transfer. According to The Athletic, Ajax initially proposed a loan deal for Ramsdale, while Arsenal is more inclined towards a permanent transfer.
The 2023/24 season proved challenging for Ramsdale, who featured in only 11 matches across all competitions.
This was a stark contrast to his first two seasons with Arsenal, where he was a key figure, playing every game in the Gunners’ title-challenging 2022/23 campaign.
His standout performances that season earned him a spot in the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year.
However, letting Ramsdale leave could be a significant risk for Arsenal unless they bring in a new backup goalkeeper. Currently.
Raya is the only first-team goalkeeper at the club, as Karl Hein has been sent on loan to newly promoted La Liga side Real Valladolid.
There is also potential interest from Premier League clubs, with Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion previously linked to Ramsdale.
Chelsea had also shown interest before opting to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
Arsenal, with Raya between the posts, are set to begin their new campaign at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, 17 August.
This comes on the heels of two impressive pre-season performances at the Emirates Stadium against Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon.
