The Nigerian Army has announced the successful elimination of eight terrorists and the rescue of 40 abducted individuals during a series of coordinated military operations across several regions of the country.
In a statement released on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Army revealed that these operations further tightened the grip on unrepentant terrorist groups and their collaborators.
According to the Army, one significant breakthrough occurred on September 28 when troops, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State.
This led to the arrest of a notorious arms courier carrying 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, concealed in a bag.
“The suspect and the vehicle were taken into custody immediately, and further investigations are underway to track down his accomplices,” the statement read.
The Army also reported successful operations in Kaduna, Borno, and Yobe states. In Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna, troops carried out precise strikes near Danmari and Saulawa villages, neutralizing one terrorist and seizing a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.
“In Ankwa village, Kachia Local Government Area, our troops engaged two more terrorists, eliminating them and recovering additional ammunition,” the Army disclosed.
In Borno State, troops encountered fleeing terrorists in Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri Local Government Area. After an intense exchange of fire, they recovered two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and other supplies abandoned by the terrorists.
Further engagements in Gwoza Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of three more terrorists near Ashigashiya village.
Vigilant troops also intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting logistics to terrorist camps in Gubio, seizing three vehicles loaded with food supplies and recovering N2,400 in cash.
In another significant victory, troops operating in Kukawa Local Government Area rescued 38 hostages, including six men, eight women, and 24 children, who had been abandoned by fleeing terrorists near Cijin village.
“The terrorists fled at the sight of our troops, leaving behind the abducted victims,” the Army’s statement said.
In Yobe State, troops responded to reports of terrorists extorting civilians in Sasawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area, staging a successful ambush that resulted in the elimination of one terrorist and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle.
Commending the troops for their efforts, the Chief of Army Staff praised their “bravery and relentless fight for peace,” expressing gratitude to citizens for providing vital intelligence.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
