The Defence Headquarters has initiated an investigation into the accidental bombing of Tudun Biri community in Kaduna State on December 3, resulting in the loss of over 100 lives.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, confirmed in a phone interview with The PUNCH that the investigation panel comprises eight senior officers.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Tudun Biri community in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has refuted claims suggesting that the community filed a N33 billion lawsuit against the Federal Government.
The incident occurred while villagers were reportedly celebrating Maulud when they were mistakenly bombed by the Nigerian Army. Taking responsibility for the tragic accident, the Army issued an apology.
Buba, the spokesperson for the defence headquarters, previously stated on December 5 that the military high command would conduct an inquiry into the incident, forming a panel to thoroughly investigate the matter.
“Yes, the military will probe the incident. When the panel is set up, the details will be communicated accordingly, please,” Buba had said.
When reached for an update on Wednesday, Buba confirmed that the panel investigating the incident had been established by Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff.
He said, “Kindly be informed the CDS has since set up an investigation panel, comprising eight senior officers, whose membership cuts across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
“The panel was set up on December 8, 2023. The outcome of their effort will be communicated in due course.”
