The Court of Appeal sitting Ibadan, Oyo State, has upheld the appointment of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, reversing an earlier verdict that had nullified his selection.
A three-member panel, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, delivered the ruling on Tuesday, siding with Oba Olaoye on all ten grounds of appeal.
Previously, on October 25, 2023, Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso had declared the monarch’s selection “irregular, null, and void,” citing non-compliance with the provisions of the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.
With the appellate court’s decision, the lower court’s judgment has been overturned, affirming Oba Olaoye’s legitimacy as the rightful Soun of Ogbomoso.
