The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is set to take place in Lagos on May 10, 2025, with a four-day lineup of events celebrating African excellence in film, culture, fashion, and music.
MultiChoice, the event’s organizers, announced the plans at a press conference on Thursday, revealing that the awards ceremony will run from May 7 to 10.
The official list of nominees will be unveiled on March 23 at 7 p.m. across all Africa Magic channels, with voting commencing immediately afterward.
Busola Tejumola, Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, highlighted the significance of recognizing African storytelling and its growing influence globally.
“We honor the legacy of African storytelling, ensuring our stories remain in the spotlight for generations to come,” Tejumola said.
“Year after year, we are witnessing an explosion of high-quality production from across the continent. African filmmakers are telling bold, diverse, and compelling stories that captivate audiences both at home and abroad. Make no mistake, the world is watching.”
This year’s AMVCA will feature 28 categories, with 18 winners chosen by a panel of judges led by acclaimed filmmaker Femi Odugbemi, while the remaining 10 will be determined by public voting on the Africa Magic website.
Odugbemi also announced the introduction of a new category, ‘Best Music Score,’ aimed at recognizing excellence in film soundtracks.
