The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owode I, has ordered the immediate dissolution of an unauthorized coronation committee allegedly formed without his consent.
In a statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday, the monarch made it clear that any activities or gatherings related to the committee would be considered illegal and would not be tolerated.
The statement, titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town—Notice of Cease & Desist,” emphasized that all events linked to his coronation must first receive official approval.
“Let it be known to all and sundry that any committee or activity being set up or promoted without the prior consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be deemed unauthorized and will not be allowed to exist,” the statement read.
Oba Owode I also directed individuals involved in the committee to immediately halt all related engagements.
“The general public and the organisers of the so-called coronation committee being put together in Oyo Town are hereby notified that no approval or consent was given by the Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owode I. Therefore, further meetings on this subject must stop immediately,” the statement added.
Addressing concerns over fundraising for the coronation, the monarch clarified that such efforts would be solely at the discretion of the royal family. He noted that an official committee would be formed if necessary, with selected individuals informed accordingly.
“The efforts of the organisers are appreciated, and they will be informed as events unfold should there be any need for their contributions,” the statement concluded.
Oba Owode I reiterated that all initiatives related to the coronation must be sanctioned by his office before any public announcement is made.
