Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has issued a stern warning to his players, urging them not to underestimate the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
Nigeria is set to host Benin in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.
The Cheetahs previously bested Nigeria 2-1 in their last encounter, a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match held in June.
Eguavoen stressed the importance of showing respect to their opponents, asserting that a lack of respect could lead to trouble.
“We will treat Benin with utmost respect. No doubt about that because if you disrespect people, you will have a problem,” Eguavoen told the Super Eagles media. “We will play them with big respect, but then, this is our home,” he added, highlighting the significance of defending their ground.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigeria time.
