A tragic incident unfolded in Dantata Village, Federal Capital Territory, when a man identified as Iliayasu Mohammed allegedly killed his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, after inviting him over for a meal.
According to the FCT Police Command, Mohammed attacked Muhammad with a cutlass while he was eating at his residence.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that officers responded to a distress call at about 1:30 PM on February 13, 2025.
“Upon arrival, officers found the victim unconscious, lying in a pool of blood with deep cutlass wounds on his head and body,” Adeh stated. “He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but doctors confirmed him dead.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that Mohammed deliberately lured his friend to his home before launching the fatal attack. Authorities also discovered that the suspect had a criminal past.
“Further inquiries revealed that Mohammed is an ex-convict and a member of a notorious gang that targets motorcyclists for theft,” Adeh disclosed.
“During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and provided details about the gang’s activities. The group is allegedly led by a fugitive identified as Hassan.”
The police assured residents that efforts were underway to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.
“The FCT Commissioner of Police urges residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The Command remains committed to ensuring public safety,” Adeh added.
Mohammed is currently in police custody and will face charges in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
