The staff of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, who were sweeping the bustling Aba-Owerri Road, discovered an abandoned newborn baby boy near Ngwa High School in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.
The Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, revealed this discovery and issued a warning to parents, particularly single mothers, urging them not to abandon their newborn babies due to the country’s economic challenges.
The child, whose mother’s whereabouts are still unknown, was found by the sweepers in the early hours of Wednesday, shortly after the mother gave birth to him.
The DGM of ASEPA, lauded the efforts of the ASEPA staff in rescuing the innocent child, saying, “You cannot know what God will use the boy to do for humanity in future as Moses was used to deliver Israel from bondage in Egypt.”
He condemned the mother’s actions as inhuman and wicked, emphasizing the callousness of carrying a baby for nine months, delivering it, and then abandoning it.
The Deputy General Manager, along with his administrative officers, transported the abandoned baby to the Abia State Teaching Hospital for care, adding that after a thorough examination, the baby would be entrusted to the Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care.
