The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden death of 21-year-old Tosin Lawal, a heavily pregnant woman in Ilaro, Ogun State.
According to reports gathered by The PUNCH on Tuesday, Lawal, who was nine months pregnant, passed away on Monday after experiencing an unusual heart sensation.
The State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Lawal had no history of illness but suddenly suffered heart palpitations before her death.
A police report from the Ilaro Division revealed that her husband, Akeem, rushed her to Ore-Ofe Specialist Hospital after she complained of a rapidly beating heart on Monday morning.
Tragically, upon their arrival at the hospital around 3:30 p.m., the attending doctor declared Lawal dead on arrival.
“The husband said Lawal told him that her heart was beating faster. The doctor declared her dead on arrival after she was rushed to the hospital,” the police report stated.
Following the incident, officers advised Akeem to transfer his wife’s body to the State Hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
The police have also submitted coroner forms to aid further investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Rise in Cases of Sudden Deaths in Ogun
Lawal’s case is part of a growing pattern of sudden deaths across Ogun State. On March 6, a 32-year-old man, Isaac Omoleye, was found lifeless in a residence opposite the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. Preliminary investigations showed no signs of foul play.
In another case, a 62-year-old hotel worker, Abel Johnson, was discovered dead in his room at De-Lay Classic Hotel in Kajola Village, near Obafe Town.
Johnson was reportedly in good health when last seen at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025. However, concerns arose the following morning when he failed to report for duty, leading to the discovery of his body.
These incidents have raised concerns among residents as authorities continue their investigations into the rising trend of unexpected deaths in the state.
