Paul Pogba’s 18-month suspension from football officially ended on Tuesday, but the midfielder is in no rush to make a decision on his next club.
According to sources who spoke to ESPN, the Frenchman is expected to wait until the end of the season before signing with a new team.
His options are somewhat restricted at the moment, as he can only join clubs in Major League Soccer, where the transfer window closes on April 23, or Japan’s J1 League, which has a deadline of March 26.
However, sources indicate that Pogba’s primary focus is securing a move back to one of Europe’s top leagues.
While he remains open to various possibilities and has even been in discussions with Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham, he has turned down offers from the Saudi Pro League and Brazil’s Serie A.
Clubs such as Marseille in Ligue 1, Fiorentina in Serie A, and multiple LaLiga teams have expressed interest in the 2018 World Cup winner in recent months, sources told ESPN.
Pogba, who hopes to feature in France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, believes that playing for a European club, especially one competing in the Champions League or Europa League—would boost his chances.
The 31-year-old midfielder was initially handed a four-year ban after testing positive for DHEA, a prohibited substance. However, following an appeal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the suspension to 18 months, allowing him to resume his career.
Pogba is now eligible to train and compete again, though his last professional appearance came in September 2023, when he played 29 minutes for Juventus.
The last time he completed a full 90 minutes in a match was back in March 2022 with Manchester United.
During his suspension, Pogba stayed active by working with a personal trainer and playing in informal matches in Miami, where he has been living with his family.
He intends to remain there while considering his next move at the end of the season.
