Fiorentina returned to winning ways after four matches with a narrow 1-0 victory over struggling Lecce in Friday’s Serie A clash.
German defender Robin Gosens provided the decisive moment early in the game, rising to meet a deep cross from Brazilian fullback Dodô with a powerful header in the ninth minute.
Fiorentina had a golden opportunity to extend their lead in the 73rd minute when Lucas Beltrán stepped up for a penalty following a handball decision.
However, his effort struck the upright, denying him a goal. The Argentine forward was unlucky again in the closing minutes as another of his shots rattled the woodwork.
With this result, Fiorentina climbed to sixth place in the standings, while Lecce remained 16th, just four points clear of the relegation zone and still searching for a win after four games.
