A tragic road accident at Secretariat Junction in Jos on Thursday night left 14 people injured after a truck carrying passengers and cows plunged off an overhead bridge.
According to The PUNCH, the truck, en route from Adamawa State to Lagos, reportedly lost control while traveling on the bridge before crashing onto the road below.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, leading to multiple injuries and significant damage to the vehicle.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, though initial reports suggest that speeding and reckless driving may have played a role.
Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Plateau State, Maxwell Lede, confirmed the incident in a preliminary report released on Friday.
He disclosed that the truck, an articulated vehicle with registration number NSK523ZY, was being driven by Muhammad Mandir Yusuf and had 32 people onboard, along with several cows.
“No fatalities have been recorded, but 14 individuals sustained varying degrees of injury and have been taken to hospitals for treatment,” Lede stated.
He further explained that the crash caused a traffic obstruction.
“The accident has affected the outward service lane connecting the Secretariat to the expressway, while the left lane leading to the roundabout under the flyover has also been partially blocked, narrowing the road. Temporary closures have been put in place to manage the situation,” he said.
Emergency responders, including FRSC personnel and the Nigeria Police Force, quickly arrived at the scene to manage traffic and prevent further accidents.
“Rescue operations were carried out by the FRSC ambulance rescue team in collaboration with emergency response services and the police,” Lede said.
“The injured victims have been taken to Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and Jos University Teaching Hospital for medical care.”
