At least ten people lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway.
The incident took place at a checkpoint in Warsala town around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when a truck carrying cement and passengers lost control, somersaulted, and plunged into a ditch.
Confirming the accident, the Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that the injured victims had been taken to the Specialists Hospital in Damaturu for medical attention.
“The truck lost control and crashed into a Sharon car at the checkpoint before veering into the ditch. Fortunately, the driver of the Sharon car escaped unhurt, though the vehicle sustained damage,” Abdulkarim said.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating, with emergency responders and bystanders working together to rescue survivors and recover bodies.
