Lagos State Special Offences Court Judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, has dismissed an application seeking his recusal from the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
According to The PUNCH, Justice Oshodi stated that the defence’s claims of bias were unsubstantiated and lacked evidence to warrant his withdrawal from the case.
The defence team, led by Olalekan Ojo, had on Monday requested the judge’s recusal, arguing that his prior rulings indicated a likelihood of bias.
However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, opposed the application, asserting that the court proceedings had been conducted fairly.
After reviewing the arguments and legal precedents presented, Justice Oshodi ruled that the request had no merit and subsequently dismissed it.
“The claims of bias have not been substantiated by either of the defendants.
“Accordingly, the first and second defendants’ recusal application is refused,” Oshodi ruled.
