Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since February 14 due to pneumonia, remains in critical condition but is stable and resting, the Vatican announced on Monday.
“The night passed well, the pope slept and is resting,” the Holy See Press Office stated, providing an update on his health as he entered his 11th day at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital—his longest hospital stay since becoming pope.
According to the AFP, despite the severity of his condition, Vatican officials noted that the 88-year-old pontiff has not experienced further respiratory distress. “Pope Francis remains alert and well-oriented,” the statement confirmed.
On Sunday, he joined a Holy Mass inside his hospital apartment on the tenth floor, alongside the medical team attending to him since his admission.
The pope was initially hospitalized after experiencing breathing difficulties during meetings on February 14. Medical examinations revealed a respiratory tract infection, leading to concerns over his health.
