Defending Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen, secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over struggling Holstein Kiel on Saturday, with Amine Adli delivering a standout performance featuring a goal and an assist.
The win helped Leverkusen narrow the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich to just five points.
Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso set a new Bundesliga record in the process, becoming the first manager to go 28 consecutive away games without defeat, an achievement unmatched in the league’s history.
From the opening whistle, Leverkusen dominated proceedings. Their early pressure paid off in the ninth minute when Patrik Schick found the net with a well-placed volley at the far post, connecting perfectly with a precise cross from Adli.
Moroccan international Adli, making only his second appearance since recovering from a leg fracture in October, doubled Leverkusen’s lead just before halftime.
After a well-worked move involving Florian Wirtz, he cleverly chipped the ball over Kiel goalkeeper Timon Weiner to seal the win. Wirtz himself came close twice in the second half but was unable to add to the scoreline.
With this result, Leverkusen remains second in the standings on 50 points, trailing Bayern Munich, who sits atop the table with 55. Bayern hosts third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt (42 points) on Sunday.
