Nigerian striker, Rafiu Durosinmi, delivered a stunning performance, scoring twice to lead Viktoria Plzen to a resounding 3-0 victory over Ferencvaros at the Doosan Aréna.
The emphatic win saw the Czech side overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and secure their place in the Europa League round of 16.
Heading into the match, Ferencvaros had the advantage, needing only a draw to advance.
However, spurred on by their passionate home supporters, Viktoria Plzen came out with urgency and intent. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Durosinmi found the net, leveling the tie on aggregate.
Just minutes later, Pavel Sulc doubled the lead with a well-placed left-footed strike, flipping the tie in Viktoria Plzen’s favour.
The hosts continued their relentless assault, and Durosinmi struck again four minutes after Sulc’s goal, extending their advantage and sending the home crowd into raptures.
Ferencvaros dominated possession in the second half but found no way past Plzen’s resolute defense.
Durosinmi, after his heroic display, was substituted in the 57th minute, making way for Prince Adu, who, along with his teammates, ensured their side maintained control until the final whistle.
With a 3-1 aggregate win, Viktoria Plzen advances to the next round, where they will meet either Italian giants Lazio or Spanish contenders Athletic Bilbao.
Beyond the team’s triumph, Durosinmi’s individual brilliance was a major highlight. Having also netted twice in a recent league match against Teplice, his return to form after a prolonged injury layoff of over a year stands as a testament to his resilience and determination.
