The Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency has expressed its readiness to mobilize investors for direct investments in agriculture and green energy in Yobe State, Nigeria.
The agency’s interest was disclosed on Tuesday by the Head of Emerging Industries, Yassine El Ahyani, during a meeting with a Yobe State delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, in Rabat, Morocco.
El Ahyani emphasized the potential of Yobe’s agricultural sector, particularly in sesame seeds and gum Arabic, which he described as valuable commodities in the global market.
“Sesame seeds are in high demand globally and could yield significant returns for investors. Investing in agriculture would be a win-win situation for investors and their partners in Yobe State, given the increasing demand for agricultural products,” he said.
He further highlighted green energy as another viable area for investment, stating, “This is another area we need to explore to create a win-win situation in the state.”
Responding, Wali assured AMDIE that Yobe State offers a favorable business environment for potential investors.
“We offer good incentives and excellent investment opportunities in agriculture, particularly in sesame seeds, gum arabic, beans, groundnuts, and other crops,” he said, adding that the state government has introduced business-friendly policies to encourage direct investment.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mustapha Goniri, noted the unique quality of onions grown in Geidam and other parts of Yobe, attributing it to the region’s distinctive combination of soil, water, and sunshine.
He emphasized the immense investment opportunities that could arise through collaboration between the state government, farmers, and foreign investors, with the Yobe State cargo airport providing easy access to international markets.
The delegation also visited AMDIE to discuss tourism development opportunities in Yobe.
The agency expressed interest in investing in the Dufana Canoe, believed to be the world’s second-oldest canoe, to boost tourism in the state.
According to El Ahyani, “The canoe could generate significant economic returns, create employment opportunities, and drive infrastructural development in the state,” recognizing the rich history and tourism potential of the artifact.
Wali assured AMDIE of the state government’s support in creating a conducive environment to promote tourism centered around the Dufana Canoe and cultural festivals.
“The initiative aligns with the Buni administration’s policy to create employment opportunities for youth in hospitality, transportation, and tour guide services,” he explained.
The CEO of African Network, Ahmed Gombe, pledged to ensure the timely completion of documentation for the investment process.
He praised the Yobe State government for its efforts in expanding revenue sources, creating jobs, and fostering wealth creation in the region.
