The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of armed robbery.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Chelim and Oneh Mohammed, were arrested while riding a motorcycle after displaying suspicious behavior.
The command’s spokesperson, SP William Aya, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday.
He explained that officers from the Ayingba Division intercepted the duo along the Harbour Bay-Egume Road during a routine patrol.
“The officers were carrying out an operation in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on enforcing Third-Party Insurance across the country when they noticed the suspects acting suspiciously,” Aya stated.
Upon questioning, the suspects were reportedly unable to provide a clear explanation for their movements. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a locally made pistol in their possession.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the officers for their vigilance. He reassured residents of the state’s commitment to combating crime.
“Our officers are dedicated to ensuring the safety of citizens. We will continue working with other security agencies to rid Kogi of criminal activities,” Dantawaye said.
He further urged residents to support security efforts by providing credible information that could help in the fight against crime.
