Tunisia’s President, Kais Saied, has dismissed his finance minister and appointed Michket Slama Khaldi as the new head of the country’s finance portfolio.
According to the AFP, the announcement was made overnight from Wednesday to Thursday through the presidency’s official Facebook page, accompanied by images of Khaldi taking the oath of office.
While the presidency did not provide further details on the change, nor comment on the departure of former minister Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, Khaldi brings significant experience to the role.
She previously chaired a national commission responsible for recovering embezzled public funds.
Tunisia has faced ongoing shortages of essential goods, including milk, sugar, and flour, over the past two years. In recent weeks, a shortage of domestic gas cylinders, crucial for cooking and heating, has also added to the nation’s economic challenges.
