Tragedy struck in the Shendai community of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Plateau State, as armed men attacked residents, killing one person and kidnapping four others.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has left the community in distress, with residents calling for urgent security intervention.
According to The PUNCH, the Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Christopher Manship, described the rising cases of kidnappings in the area as alarming.
He appealed to security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
“The Executive Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Christopher Audu Manship, extends his condolences to the people of Shendai community over the unfortunate loss of one life,” read a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Danaan Sylvanus.
The chairman reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to security, pledging to work closely with security agencies to facilitate the safe rescue of those abducted.
In response to the attack, Manship, alongside security operatives led by Lt. Col. Ogunrinde Soji, visited the affected community to assess the situation firsthand.
They were joined by local government officials, four councillors from Namu District, and the Divisional Police Officer of Namu Police Division.
During the visit, Manship sympathized with the bereaved family and the relatives of those kidnapped, urging them to remain hopeful.
“The safety of our people remains our top priority. We are working closely with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safe return of the abducted persons,” he assured.
Lt. Col. Soji also reiterated the military’s commitment to securing the area, stating that investigations were underway to track down the attackers and rescue the victims.
Residents have called for increased security presence in the community, fearing further attacks if urgent action is not taken.
