The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has been cleared of allegations of financial mismanagement in its 2024 budget by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance.
Speaking on Thursday, the committee chairman, Senator Sani Musa, stated that the accusations of reckless spending leveled against the examination board were unfounded based on the documents submitted by JAMB.
The allegations surfaced during a budget defense session where JAMB was accused of spending N1.1 billion on meals and N850 million on fumigation.
According to Senator Musa, the board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had attempted to clarify the expenditures but was initially overruled by the committee.
“For clarity, the comprehensive report submitted by JAMB shows that the line items discussed during Monday’s revenue hearing do not indicate any financial mismanagement or misuse of funds,” Senator Musa explained.
He further commended the registrar for his approach to managing the board’s finances. “The report highlighted responsible and prudent resource utilization under the leadership of the registrar,” he said.
“The registrar deserves recognition for demonstrating financial discipline and accountability. This level of stewardship is exemplary and should be a standard for public institutions across the nation,” the senator added.
The committee has also requested detailed budgetary reports for 2024 and 2025 to further ensure transparency and accountability.
