Brentford showcased resilience on Tuesday night, securing a dramatic 2-2 draw against Premier League champions Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees battled back from a two-goal deficit in the second half to earn a point against their illustrious opponents.
Phil Foden gave City the advantage with two goals. The Englishman opened the scoring in the 66th minute, connecting with a precise cross from Kevin De Bruyne before calmly finding the back of the net.
In the 78th minute, Foden struck again. A slip by Mads Roerslev allowed Savinho to charge toward Brentford’s goal.
Though his initial shot was saved, Foden capitalized on the rebound to double the visitors’ lead, seemingly securing the win for the defending champions.
However, Brentford had other plans. Congolese forward Yoane Wissa reignited hope for the home side in the 82nd minute, converting a well-delivered cross from Roerslev.
This goal marked a significant milestone for Wissa, as he became Brentford’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 37 goals.
In stoppage time, Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard completed the comeback. Rising to meet a cross from Keane Lewis-Potter, Norgaard’s header found the net, earning Brentford a well-deserved draw.
The result leaves Manchester City in sixth place on 35 points, while Brentford remains in 10th position with 28 points.
