Assistant Commissioner of Police, Daniel Amah, widely recognized for his outstanding integrity, has embraced Islam during a private ceremony at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
According to The PUNCH, the event, held on Tuesday, marked Amah’s formal conversion to Islam, during which he adopted the name Muhammad.
Speaking in Hausa, the Emir welcomed Amah to the Islamic faith and encouraged him to deepen his understanding of its teachings.
“You must seek knowledge about Islam and practice the five pillars: faith in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and giving Zakat,” the Emir said.
He prayed for divine guidance, adding, “May Allah make you one of the best Muslims in the world.”
The Emir also advised Amah to maintain his commendable character and continue respecting and obeying his parents, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Amah gained national recognition in April 2022 when, as the Divisional Police Officer of Nasarawa Local Government Area in Kano, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by suspects in a high-profile robbery case.
The suspects had stolen over N300 million in cash, including $750,000, from a Bureau De Change operator.
In recognition of his integrity, Amah was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission on November 10, 2022. He was also honored with the prestigious Public Service Integrity Award in 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, following a nomination by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
During the award presentation, Buhari commended Amah for setting a remarkable example in law enforcement.
